At work on Tuesday, I was puting some files away. They weren't tightly packed in this carriage, and so they were actually tipped over. I was pulling them upright so I could put the file to be filed away. Well, see, I put my fingers on the end file and my thumb on top and pulled!! I now realize that, no, there wasn't enough room for the upright files and my thumb between the shelf and the bottom of the next one up. I ended up cutting my tumb just below the send knuckle. I thought I heard a scrape, and luckily I didn't jerk it out, or I might have ended up with a bloody inch long filet-o-thumb. I screamed and swore ("Crap! Damn! Dammit! Crap!" [so my pottymouth isn't as practiced as it was in college...]) and felt really stupid. So I got it out, and it didn't look that bad: wide and deep, but not bleeding much, and I could still move my thumb. So I went to the front of the Medical Records to report it to Judith (our manager). Before I got all the way up, the bleeding had started to overflow the wound. So I'm holding my other hand cup-style underneath. Judith told me, to get a paper towel and head up to the ER while she got the accident report forms. Lucky I was at the hospital ;) ! I ran up the stairs two at a time as I usually do, and announced my self to Sara, "Guess what? I'm a patient!" They called occupational health (OHS) and described the wound my my "right PIP." They then sent me over to OHS across the skywalk. My poor digit was examined and shot full of lidocaine, then scrubbed with a betadine sponge. The doctor came in and he measured it at 1 cm. He put in three stitches, and told me not to use my hand until my follow up next Wednesday. Well, that isn't really realistic, but I was pretty good about not using the actual thumb for the first 48 hours. I'm changing the dressing daily and it looks like I have a little sweatband for my thumb. I took a pic of the stitches, too.
So I had to explain the accident to Judith and then to Kelly Services. Kris from Kelly asked if there were any witnesses. "Um, not unless Maria hearing me swear a lot counts..." I had to tell the story again about 15-20 times at pool league the next night ("and that's why I'm gripping the cue with only my fingers.") So that's my big story for the week.
Tuesday night, flower76 came over and we played DDR for a couple hours. Tons of fun! Oh, and capnbuckle, this one's for you! Here is the long-promised pic of my Stage (324k). Then, we went to Village Inn and got the now-defunct French Skillet (which they had to argue with each other as to what was actually in it, and if it's now a Freedom Skillet [j/k]), which was teh yum! It was great to actually hang out with someone my own age for a change. ;D Thanks, Mary!
There's always room for Meme!
Apropos with the DDR sensation I am. :)
