Stream of Consciousness / Tunes and Movies

<ramble>I think J Lo should stick to music, though I did like her in The Cell, but of course that was probably due to the awesome costumes and scenics in the heads of the characters. Yay, Vincent D'Onofrio! By the way, have I mentioned how much I love Gorem from Law & Order: Criminal Intent? It's almost like he's autistic, but that way he just seems to know everything is incredible. Best L&O character ever. Like Monk, but without the OCD. Speaking of OCD, I read this awesome article in Discover magazine about how a lot of mental disorders may be caused by a simple vitamin, mineral, or other nutrient deficiency. I'm going to start taking extra zinc and Ω-3 fatty acids for SAD and depression/social-anxiety, and... something else for memory... I'll have to look up in the article, but it will have to wait until my finances are caught up. I've been very good with my money. I'm keeping myself on a strict $40/wk cash allowance for right now, but I did forget about gasoline, so that'll have to be extra. I want to use the card at the pump just because it's easier, plus I won't be tempted by convenience store crap when I go inside, because I won't go inside. Anyway, like my other bills, that will just be outside the cash allowance. I really hope that Carol can get all our temp jobs at Mercy to be made perm. It would probably mean a decent raise, but benefits are the most awesome part. I figure if I get a raise out of it, I'll just set that right into savings. Who knows? I may even be able to make my $5000 goal for the year if that happens mid-year. I don't know what the difference would be, but I figure the temp agency is keeping at least 10%-15%, which is around $40-$65/wk, pre-tax. That could really add up. It would be an extra $1000-$1700 for the last half of the year. The thing I thought about recently was that if this happens, I'd end up switching from weekly paychecks on a Tuesday to a bi-weekly paycheck on Thursday or Friday, so I need to have a buffer of an extra week's pay by then. It won't be a problem. I guess I won't be sending back the TiVo. I figure with the shipping and handling and the return shipping and the restocking fee, it will end up costing me about as much to return it as it would to keep it. I think paying $75 to return it or accept the extra $25 loss to keep it is okay. Whatever. I'm not going to be pissed at myself about it; that's not productive. I'll need to get another USB 802.11b network thingy for it, and the monthly fee, but it's only $7, so it's all good, and I'll double my recording capacity. I could even set it up for the shows Patti wants so she can record whatever she wants. I guess that would involve her learning how to tell it what she wants, but she can learn. Speaking of TV, Mary's coming over to DDR with me on Tuesday! I'm very excited, and I can show off my clean room. Need to get pix of that up, too. I'll have to move the little couch so we can both see the TV. So that's enough for now.</ramble>

Name that tune and Name that Movie
One movie left (chick flick starring Sandra Bullock):
 11. *answers phone* Hi. / Why do you do that? /
Do what? / Answer like you know it's me. /
    But it is you.

Two tunes left:
 13. *Ani Difranco* Squint your eyes, and look closer.
I'm not between you and your ambition.
I am a poster girl with no poster.
 14. *vocalist bursts into crows in the video*
*F vocal* *hums* If I could melt your heart,
               *hums* we'd never be apart.
               *hums* Give yourself to me.
               *hums* You hold the key.

I wish I'd seen these list earlier because I would have killed on them.

Number 11 is from the Ya Ya Sisterhood. Sandra is saying it to her fiance Colin.

Number 13 is, I believe, 32 flavors.

Number 14 is a U2 song, but I can't place it.

13. Correctamundo
14. I don't think Bono is a Female vocalist... ;) Sorry.

14. ...but maybe if you kick him in the 'nads hard enough...
Apr. 25th, 2005 12:00 pm (UTC)
Oh, good idea! Everyone kick Bono in the 'nads! Except Shaun, who can just be outraged. ;)

Bono can get up there in pitch you know.

God, is it Jewel?
Apr. 25th, 2005 12:06 pm (UTC)
God says "No." And everybody knows that there is no Jewel, only Enrique Iglesias in drag.

Or maybe, "There is no Dana, only Jewel!" *g*

Do NOT use your card to buy gas!!!

This is what happens when you do.

Step 1: Gas pump reads your card and asks the bank "Does this person have $50.00? If they do, I want it." (This is because they don't know how much you'll end up spending.)

Step 2: The bank cheerfully yanks $50.00 out of your personal account and puts it in a general access account ATMs and the like have access to.

Step 3: You finish fueling, and the gas pump says "Okay, this person owes my people $16.97."

now, if you are LUCKY, you get

Step 4a: The bank nods, and subtracts that from the $50.00.

Probably 80% of the time, though, you get

Step 4b: The bank says "Okay!" and takes $16.97 out of your account.

Step 5: Eventually, the remainder of the funds removed (either the full fifty, or whatever of it you didn't spend) is returned to your account.

Step 5 takes between 2 to 4 HOURS.

Well, I only ever get gas at BP and Handimart which is, I think Phillips66, and they both show up as $1 authorizations until about 2 days later when the transaction clears for the actual amount. I guess that's why I never worry about it. *shrug* Probably comes from living where that newfangled teknolumujy isn't to the point of pillaging the bank account. Thanks for the heads up, tho.

Yeah, I've never seen a $50 "set-aside", either. Sorry, Jenn. You must be living out in the sticks. :P

I'm not going to be pissed at myself about it; that's not productive.

Absolutely! Besides, if you got pissed at yourself and obsessed over it, it would likely just make you depressed. I remember when I used to get depressed over stuff like this, pre-Ritalin, that it would just end up making my spending more impulsive. (I think we used to call it "Retail Therapy" for depression.) I'm glad to hear your doing great with everything else!

I'm very excited, and I can show off my clean room. Need to get pix of that up, too.

Yeah, yeah. You've been promising that for well over a week, I think. I'll believe it when I see it. :P

"Retail Therapy"
Yeah, I've got that trigger, too. When I get depressed, I like to go buy things, which means spending money, which worsens my financial situation, which makes me depressed. So it's a vicious cycle, not unlike drug addiction.

I'll believe it when I see it.
I'm building suspense, you knob. ;P
