Who wants a TiVo? / Temp-to-Hire?

I'm too tired to code this all up right now... maybe later I'll come back and do it...

Who wants a TiVo?
I've decided not to return it. Returning it is going to be a big pain in the ass. Instead, I'm going to sell it to the first person who wants it (locally [IC/CR area or come and get it], I'm not shipping it). $100 buys you an 80-hour Series 2 TiVo as seen here. Boni for you: you needn't wait for the shipping, and you needn't mess with the mail-in rebate, and you save S&H charges. Boni for me: I get rid of the TiVo I shouldn't have bought, and I don't have to deal with the hassle of returning it. Win/Win/Win/Win/Win. There's only one (1) available, and I've already told some other people about it. Send an email to mandydax(a)gmail.com if you want it. Edit: I just read the rebate form, and the service needs to be activated be 5/31/05 and has to be active for at least 30 days.

I talked to the director at work about the possibility of making my position permanent and keeping me in the position. She said, "Actually, I've been meaning to talk to you about that..." They're trying to put it in the budget for the next fiscal year (starting July 1, 2005) to make all the temps into perms, maybe even before the new fiscal year! She thinks that I've been doing a great job, and all the temps are working great. The biggest thing for me isn't the money. I'm getting that all reined in (but a raise would be nice ;) ). Benefits!! Health and dental (thru the hospital you know they'll rock), and sick and vacation time'd be great! I can get vacation and holiday pay thru the temp agency, but the requirements are crazy. For the vacation time, they don't pay you when you take it. If you work 1500 hours in a calendar year, they pay you 40 hours vacation at the end of the following January. Sick time N/A. The health and dental they offer is a joke, so much so that I figured I was better off without, considering my health is very good. So, wish Carol luck with getting that budget thingy approved.

Good luck with the temp-to-hire thing! I had a great temp-to-hire experience in Colorado, I really liked "feeling out" the company before signing on for good.

Plus, bennies were nice too :)

Yay for a steady job with benefits!

My job of 4 years started out as a temp job. Granted, I'm tired of it now, but that's because I haven't been applying myself. I'd rather be in another line of work entirely. Temp-to-hire is a good deal if you aren't exactly sure where you want to go in life, and you're willing to take what comes along. Up until this last year, that suited me perfectly. I'm glad that's working out for you too!

Yeah, it's all good. I just want to work until I'm rich and then, well, we'll see. :)
