Colorado Blizzard

CO BlizzardWow! When histrygrrl described a blizzard, I think she fell short of the mark of how bad it really is. Here's hoping for all the best on the east slope.

For the head count of my friends, we've got:
histrygrrl via post.
jaka_talbot via comment (and klaus_weg by proxy).
ladypentacles via comment.
still haven't seen
nix_guru, but he hasn't posted in 4 days anyway. Nixie! You okay?! Yay! Nixie's okay!

Ugh.

That, my friends, is one thing I do NOT miss about living on the Front Range. Home of the 80-car pileup!

I read about a 105-car pile-up once (it didn't happen during bad weather). I might be able to understand the first 100, but those last 5 are idiots! :S

That's what I wondered when I read about th 80-car one! It was by the Eisenhower tunnel on I-70...first 50 or so cars, that's understandable. But can you imagine being the 80th car? How do you miss 79 cars piled up in the road?

I don't even want to THINK about unraveling the insurance on that one. *shudder*

Yeah, it was beautiful here, too. But they'll get to gloat when you fall into the ocean with the rest of SW CA, and when I get swept away by tornado.

Bah. I'll build myself a boat powered on the new Ghost Rock that will be discovered and be the world's first mad scientist.

God told Noah, "Build unto me an ark, with lots of room for poo." Noah replied, "But I wanted a speedboat!"

Pah, it was nothing. (OK, it was nothing up here in the North, I hear it was much more of a something further South.) Add to the fact that it was Sunday and most people could stay home, it really was nothing.

Here I am at work, Monday morning, with no commute problems at all. Must not have been REAL snow. Why, back when I was a young whippersnapper in MN, a blizzard lasted for DAYS, and no one could get to work for a WEEK!!!

Oh, good. I guess an 80-car pileup was just people who don't know how to drive. ;)

No, if I recall correctly the 80 car pileup was in front of the Eisenhower Tunnel. That's a very narrow, very busy stretch of mountain road. That's probably the worst bottleneck in the state, and it's not expandable without excavating a new tunnel out of solid mountain.

Add blizzard conditions, and I'm not surprised. Bad area. But I have to say, if you're going to drive in that area in bad weather, you have to be prepared.

Poor planning on the state's part, it sounds like. Ick!

I am in Boulder now. I actually spent Thursday and Friday moving my stuff from Colorado Springs to Superior (a town half way between Denver and Boulder). The movers and I got everything in and I was mostly unpacked by Saturday night. So, I was mostly unaffected by the snow. (Besides, it wasn't blizzard conditions where I am at.)

Oh! The news read like the entire east slope was buried under 30" of wet snow. I guess that's the media being liberal. ;)

Ok, Yeah, I have a 4 foot drift under my kitchen window, and my car's completely burried, but today it's 45 and sunny. Plus SNOW DAY!!! The Libraries are closed! *blissfully folds laundry* I'm going to Las Vegas Thursday...

Stay away from the Mai Tais at the Bellagio. They're watered down.

Have fun Shauny!

Yeah. Waaaaayyyy watered down.

And I hear they have a vault that no one can break into...... except maybe gorgeous George Clooney and the equally drool worthy Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.

All of whom are single last I heard, ahem SHAUN.

From Monty Python and the Unwatered-Down Mai Tai
OLD MAN: Ah, hee he he ha!
ARTHUR: And this enchanter of whom you speak, he has seen the Mai Tai?
OLD MAN: Ha ha he he he he!
ARTHUR: Where does he live? Old man, where does he live?
OLD MAN: He knows of a vault, a vault which no man has entered.
ARTHUR: And the Mai Tai... The Mai Tai is there?
OLD MAN: Very much danger, for beyond the vault lies the Wet Bar
of Eternal Peril, which no man has ever emptied.
ARTHUR: But the Mai Tai! Where is the Mai Tai!?
OLD MAN: Seek you the Casino of Death.
ARTHUR: The Casino of Death, which leads to the Mai Tai?
OLD MAN: Hee hee ha ha!

This was a weird storm. We got almost no snow here in Boulder (since we're close to the mountains) but Denver & southeast got hammered.

And I got a snow day anyway!! Ha!

Snow day!! Do you have to make it up at the end of the year? That's teh suck about snow days: payback with interest. Have a fun snow day!

The Emily is also well. I took one look at the weather channel and flatly informed her that her visit had been extended. :P She's in Colorado Springs now, having made it through the Raton Pass, and will brave the rest of the trip to Boulder tomorrow.
