Doing a bit of catching up here. I watched this with snakewich on 21 February. chebutykin insisted I needed to see it.
I think that the storyline was good, but I had a hard time getting into it. I didn't really go into it with any preconceptions, but it didn't really resonate with me. I liked the animatronic monsters, even though they were kind of cheesy. The suspense was high in that even the audience doesn't know who has been infected. Maybe watching this during a snowstorm made me want to run away all the more, since the movie is set in Antarctica, during winter. This, by the way, caused a lot of distraction for me, because depending how far south the base is, there should hardly be any daylight at all, but so many of the exterior shots seemed to be during the daytime. I think I had seen this movie starting from when the dude gets his hands eaten off by that other dude's chest.
This won't take the place of Big Trouble in Little China as my favorite Kurt Russell movie, but it was funny seeing a much younger Wilford Brimley, and saying through the whole thing, "Man, that guy sounds like Wilford Brimley; he even looks a bit like him," only to find out that, yes, Virginia, that is Wilford Brimley.
