I'm going to TAM7!

I'm going to be attending Convergence, as I have in years past, the first weekend of July.

This year, though, I'm going to follow it up by going to The Amaz!ng Meeting 7 in Las Vegas! It's kind of a pricey event, but I think it'll be so good and fun for me. Besides, when's the last time I took a real vacation more than 5 hour's drive away? I think that would be when I went to Colorado in 2005. :O I'm really excited about it.

I've booked the hotel room, too, so there's just airfare to arrange. :| I haven't flown since October 2001, so I have not experienced the hell that security supposedly is nowadays. *twitch* Does anyone have any suggestions on booking a flight?

Yay for CONvergence!! :D

I dunno about booking a flight, but security isn't that bad. You just have to take off your shoes.

What they said above: wear shoes you can slip your feet in and out of quickly, don't bring any liquid in anything larger than a tiny hotel room shampoo bottle.

If you can, don't bring a suitcase. Just bring a carry-on. It'll cut down on the headache of airplane travel exponentially.

The last time I bought tickets for myself to fly I think I went to Expedia.com. I think there are some pretty good deals right now on Vegas...I'm jealous!

I went to expedia to look, and and they didn't seem too bad, but I just don't care for all the bullshit involved with flying. :\

I'll be doing the CVG/TAM back-to-back option as well!

If I wind up driving to TAM, want to carpool?

Dude! That sounds like a lot more fun than flying, and probably cheaper in the long run, too. I'm totally down with that. :D

Are you interested in splitting a room at the hotel? I don't snore. ;)

I'm already sharing a room there, but I'll definitely let you know if that falls through.

It looks like I won't own a car during that part of the year. However, renting an economy car for the week would cost $230-$250. Add $160 for gas. Split for two, that would be around $200 per person, which on par or cheaper than getting a plane ticket.

Hell, if the Iwans are going and want to carpool, we could get a larger car and split the trip four ways... !

I just checked ticket prices again. It looks like Sun Country finally opened up ticket sales for Vegas, so the price has dropped to $197. With taxes, the cost is $230 or so.

Huh, I didn't get a notification for this comment >:[

I have been checking flights and either direct or through Denver, it's well over $300 r/t. I'd love to do a road trip. I could meet you in Des Moines or somewhere west/north of here so it wouldn't be way out of the way.

I just got a note from JREF Linda to let be know that the Talent Show and the first Penn and Teller show are at the same time (Saturday night), and wanted to know if I'd like to switch the P&T to Sunday night. The P&T shows start at 9pm. Are you going and if so, which night? I think that would make a difference on when we'd be leaving, right? I want to get travel arrangements made before I tell her which option I'm going with.

It sounds like you have some fun vacatons planned!

I hope you have a nice time. I will be expecting stories :)

I'm british and as such get the rubber glove treatment when I fly through US airports, so my advice on that score isn't as relevant as these other fine people.

I do have a question though. What's Convergence like? I haven't been to any kind of con-style event in years and I've been talking with L about options. We're more looking to save as much as we can and hitting something ridiculous like PAX or ComicCon in a few years, but I'm curious as to the other options a little closer to home for one of the fantasy/sci-fi/movies/tv/comic book geek persuasion. :-)

It's like a big geekfest party. It's really pretty cheap at only $50 for the whole thing if you pre-register. http://convergence-con.org/ has all the info on what's going on there this year.
