Writer's Block: Doh!

It's the twentieth anniversary of the first Simpsons episode today. Who is your favorite Simpsons character—Ralph? Sideshow Bob? Ned Flanders? An actual Simpson?

No, it's not. It's the 19th anniversary.
"Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire"

Original Airdate: 12/17/89

Christmas is nearly ruined when Marge has to spend all of the family's gift money to remove Bart's tattoo. Homer becomes a department store Santa to raise more cash, but bets it all at the dog races on a hot tip from Barney. Homer and Bart save Christmas by adopting the losing greyhound, Santa's Little Helper.

Shit, I guess that means I'll have to say Lisa, because she's a skeptical know-it-all, too. :P

I remember seeing that for the first time.

When Homer laments with "Oh my God!" when the big jar is devoid of money, I knew I was watching something entirely different and admittedly a bit shocking.

It was so terrific!

It's still weird to look back on the first season and see how sketchy they are. Literally, MG sketched it out to pitch so he wouldn't have to worry about losing the rights to Life in Hell if he pitched that. The company took the sketches and thought that they were really supposed to look like that. Strange.

Maybe they thought it was deliberately "edgy"
I love minimalist comedy- the writing has to be that much more engaging!

Of course, it all may have started unraveling when Conan left... or after the awkward coming of pubescent age for the series...

As a result, I haven't seen a new episode in years.

I don't think I'm missing out.

I hadn't watched it in a long while, but i was catching some Family Guy epis on Hulu that I'd missed and saw that they had The Simpsons, so I caught the "Treehouse of Terror" epi, and then just watched all of the ones they had. It's still funny. I'm just amazed that they can still come up with stuff to do after all these years.

Indeed
The Halloween episodes are arguably the only time to catch up with the series.
