Sarah's a funny name for a man...

Oh, wait, it's because she's a woman! Wait... he picked a woman? Why would he... oh... because she's a woman... I really hope the Hillaryites don't fall for this transparent crap-trap.

No kidding, that's probably as far as he thought it through.

.I think she's supposed to be more überconservative than he, so maybe that's his commitment to those GOP naysayers who thing McCain's too liberal.

And maybe he was influenced by Bill's convention speech, about having been successful in the White House despite having been a lowly governor nobody at the start. If it's good for a president, it's gotta be good enough for a VP!

My favorite quote about this so far is from Pharyngula. PZ writes:
Supposedly she has some credibility as a good choice for dealing with energy issues, but near as I can tell she's of the drill-in-marginal-areas school, not someone who's going to pursue alternative energy sources, and is going to be a favorite of the oil companies — Dick Cheney with a less evil face. Worst of all, from my perspective, she also has a history of pandering to creationist ignorance, promoting the bogus 'teach the controversy' nonsense in the absence of any real scientific controversy.

Yeah, my first reaction when I heard who his choice was and some basic information about her? "That woman needs to be home with her kids."

She is seriously setting herself up to be torn apart. Any anti-abortion woman with a disabled toddler who entertains an offer for a very intensive position (which, by the way, she doesn't even know what it entails) on the other side of the continent from her home should be fully prepared to be criticized in ways she never thought possible.

And, please, why o why would ANYONE name their child with Down's Syndrome "Trig"????????

On a political standpoint, choosing a woman who is NOT a proponent of women's rights is hardly the way to win over residents of Hillaryland. And just because she has been involved for about a decade or so in the energy concerns of Alaska does not mean she has a grasp on world energy trade / concerns. Foreign affairs are clearly out of her experience level. Economics? Hardly. Housing issues? Not on your life.

What exactly is he getting from her other than someone young without a penis?

Well, as I understand it, she was a runner up in the Miss Alaska contest; she is rather hawt for a Republican.

Did you hear what she said? "Hillary left 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America, but it turns out the women of America aren't finished yet, and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all." Wow, that's a really bad reason to vote for her ticket. When I was 10, I thought that my mom should vote for Walter Mondale just because his running mate was a woman. When I was ten...

I missed her speech - and neglected to DVR it. Maybe I can find it online. I get the feeling that I'm going to be of the opinion that she is just about as stupid as most beauty pageant contestants seem to be (note the "seem" there -- I do know that most of them are college graduates. Hmmm, then again, I do recall some Cornellians who I could not for the life of me figure out how they got in much less how they graduated.).
