Well, I talked to the DNR guy, and he suggested that we all keep our cats in and let it outside in hopes that mama would sniff it out. It was in the top-opening cat-carrier, so I took the top off, and sat there in the dark for about thirty minutes, but mama was a no-show. I figured my presence might be the problem, so I came in for about another half-hour, and when I went down, the baby was gone. No signs of struggle or anything like that, so I think mama and baby are probably back together. At least I hope so. I hope Ares never brings me another. I almost wanted to keep it, but then I'd have to change my username to [info]ellymayclampett, and wow, that's a PitA.

So, best wishes to my little temporary companion.

PS: I cut my hair on a whim. Actually, it may have been because I couldn't stand it any longer, which is the usual reason. :P

I am glad everything worked out okay with the baby opossum.
I am sure its mom came and picked it up.
I don't think I would have been able to handle it as well as you did, my nerves would have been a mess.

This kind of reminds me of the 'Boy Scout Camp - Baby Mice' story.
Did I ever tell you that one?

If you did keep the opossum, Elly May, what would you have named it?

PS Now I am all curious as to what your hair looks like. Is it really short? I need a haircut myself :p

I don't think you told me that story.

I purposely did not name it anything other than the baby so I wouldn't bond any further. I think it was a girl, but I'd probably have called it Eric the Opossum after Eric the Half a Bee from the Monty Python sketch.

Yeah, it looks more like what I wanted it to look like the last time I cut it.

Well, I will have to tell you the baby mice story sometime :)

Yeah, I thought that might have been why you called it 'the baby' it is probably a little easier that way. Eric would have been an amusing name.
My first thought of course goes to the well-worn 'Pogo' ;)

I am glad your hair turned out more like the way you wanted it. I will have to see it sometime.
