X-Prize

I thought all the Trekkers out there would find this a highly amusing coincidence. Tonight WGN reported on the first flight to qualify for the X-Prize. Mike Melvill took the Rutan/Allen Spaceship One to the required altitude with two passengers' equivalent ballast. The reporter was none other than WGN's own Miles O'Brien (spelled that way, like the Chief). Hmm, and WGN is channel 9 (like DS9) in Chicago. Eerie!

More on the flight from AP and Reuters. They may try for the second flight on Monday. I'll want to see that live if I can.

I couldn't find that info, but "O'Brien co-anchors the weekday newscast 'Live From' with Kyra Phillips." Evidentally WGN took the report from CNN. Here's his professional bio. It looks like he covers a lot of space stories. But he looks more like Gul Damar (without the Cardassian makeup).
