Meme of the Apocalypse!

maralita has set out to see how far a meme chain reaction will go on LJ in 10 days. Go here, and put your name, location, and my username down. She's up to 1659 with mine, and her 10 days were up a few hours ago, but put yours in there anyway.

GirPS to davedujour: There are a ton of icons there! Check out this Gir icon from just a few above mine on page 50.

Presents
Well, I've decided to make chenille scarves for some people for whom I don't know what to get. At Wal-Mart today, there was no thick chenille in black, the type I wanted to get because I can use an N-size hook and churn out a 72" x 6-8" scarf in about an hour and the color I wanted because it goes with anything. They had some skeins of the thin black chenille, so I got those. I started to make one with this thin chenille and decided that it wasn't going to be thick enough to be funtional, and it would take forever to finish. So I had some regular white yarn lying around from the blanket I did earlier this year, and decided to do two strands as one. It's not as nice and soft as my thick red chenille scarf, but it is a pretty effect with the two texures and colors. I finished one scarf.

Also, while at WM, I got flower76 a present which will be revealed later. I was walking by and saw it and knew it was perfect. So: <zim>Begin your anxious anticipation, simple-minded human party-thrower, for all that you hope and dream of will be DOOMED... by my incredibly advanced gifting technology.</zim>

Graham says:Graham says: It's all just SO slippery!
... or maybe just an insane idea. I'm going to wear latex gloves to bed. I'm going to put lots of moisturizer on my hands and then put on a pair of latex gloves. You may say, "But Miranda, why do you have latex gloves?" Simple. I bought them at WM. Not just for this purpose, of course. I find they're useful for hair coloring and cleaning catboxes, as well as making huge water balloons.

No, really. It's not a kinky thing. I'm only worried that I'll wake up and not realize that the gloves have my hands in them, and start to scream that "a dentist is molesting me!" I know that's not really funny once you think about it, but it's hysterical that it was the first thing that popped into my mind as a concern.

Oh, I totally digressed. The reason I'm doing this moisturizing-latex-gloves thing is that I found that after a long work day of having my rubber finger on (rubber finger is that rubber thimble-like thing put on a finger to help flip thru papers), that finger's skin looks fabulous! No hangnails or dry, cracked skin, just hand-model style beauty, if only for the last ¾-inch. So, yeah, it totally is sane.

Computer
I still haven't gotten a chance to make my Frankenputer. I haven't even set up the new one as is. I suck. Maybe tomorrow. Wow, I haven't procrastinated like this since college. It makes me feel young again! ;)

DDR
Holy Crap! The best pad appears to be the $100 one. It's the only one I saw on the EB site that didn't have some illiterate 13-year-old writing as a comment, "tihs pad suck!!! i play it 4 5 days & teh down arow dont work haf teh time. dont by it!! it SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!" The one that looks highly recommended (by the literate, no less; I guess you have to be able to read and type to earn enough money to buy one) is the same one flower76 has that unzips.

Due to Butch's complications, Patti has a $450 vet bill that will sap her resources, so I'm chipping in a little more to help out. I was thinking I'd be able to get the whole setup this week, but it's looking doubtful. Probably it is for the best since I have three long nights of pool playoffs this week and probably wouldn't be able to get it out of the box, much less play it.

SpyroAlso, when I had the PS2 before, I was a Spyro the Dragon freak, and now there's a new game out, so that may have to be my I-don't-feel-like-dancing game. I'll make sure to use the DDR pad to control the dragon. That should be fun.

The Wet Spot
I finally got around to giving spot her flea (or is it flee?) bath. She was... how shall I say?... not happy. I couldn't towel-dry her either. It's either air- or blow-dry, and it's too drafty to let her fully air-dry. So I was trying to keep her in the sink alcove while blow-drying her. I got the worst part of the water in her fur, but take a look at her now. Oh, crap. I'm so dumb. I renamed the pictures and then forgot to copy them to my computer before I deleted them. Yeah, crap.

Good Idea / Bad Idea
Good Idea: Moisturize your hands.
Bad Idea: Moisturize your hands all night with latex gloves on.

Also, memo to myself: Don't tell everyone your ingenious, if off-the-wall ideas until after they've turned out wonderfully.

Frankenputer
I'm going to begin work on cannibalizing the best of both computers and seeing if I can make two working computers. So if I don't post for a while, my computers are probably irreparably damaged. Wish me luck. Strike that. I must go be a chauffeur now. I will try to get back to it soon. I say that a lot. It's like getting help with procrastination.

Endless Quiz
I am no longer Death. As I've gotten older, I've become the younger sister. How delirious is that?!

Delirium
You are most like Delirium of the Endless.
Delirium smells of sweat, sour wines, late
nights, old leather. Her realm is close, and
can be visited; however, human minds were not
made to comprehend her domain. Who knows what
Delirium sees through her mismatched eyes?

Which of the Endless are you most like?

Frankenputer
Ok, so I opened both computers up and found the RAM DIMMs are of the same type. This is great since I had 64MB + 128MB = 192MB in my VAIO and there are 2x 128MB in the new one. Bad thing is that my VAIO has only 2 slots, so I max out at 256MB. The new one has 3 slots, so I could get up to 384MB, but I'll need to pull everything out of the VAIO (CD-R/RW drive, 2x HDD, network card, USB card) and put them in the new one just to get the extra memory. I'll try this in a little bit, or maybe tomorrow.

The good news is that the new computer came with a 17" monitor, which is 2" more than the VAIO, so I can get a higher resolution without lowering the pixel size much. Also with that extra memory, the computer doesn't have to cache to the HDD as much as so runs noticeably faster.

The bad news is that the HDD in the new one is actually 2GB instead of 10GB, so it wouldn't be viable as a jukebox unless I bought a new HDD for it or for the VAIO. Neither option is really cost effective probably.

Computer geeks, do you know if a Pentium II 400MHz with 384MB RAM or a Celeron 466Mhz with 256MB RAM runs faster given the same OS (XP) and everything else? I'm thinking the P2 because it has a 4x larger L2 cache (whatever that means ;) ). I'll probably try both and see for myself. I just hope there's no problem in just switching the drives. I've heard that a differnt BIOS can make a difference, but again, I'll have to try it.

Kitten Update
Butch and the babies are doing even better than yesterday. It looks like they're in the clear. The kittens are growing noticeably, and they're only three days old.

Also: Names! Coming home from the store yesterday, Floyd greeted us, and Patti mentioned how the tuxy kitten looks like him. I said, "Maybe we could name his Sigmund. Then we'd have Sigmund, Floyd." Sure, it's a bad pun, but Patti liked it, and so we dubbed him Sigmund. For the other, the calico, I suggested Cassidy. Then we'd have Butch, Cassidy. She hasn't approved it, but I like it. Cassie and Ziggy.
