Gotcha!

I picked up the WoW:BC expansion just after Best Buy opened. I walk in the doors and they have a big display full of regular edition expansion. I guess considering when I went, I needn't have bothered with the pre-order. I probably would have got out faster if I hadn't. Either way, it's done, and I'm installing it now. Still need to come up with a name for my BE pally. I didn't bother with the Collector's Edition. The art might have been nice, and the DVD-ROM vs. 4 CD-ROMs would have been nice. Personally, I don't see why they couldn't just make the whole thing downloadable via the P2P they've already got, and charge some fee for the key. They'd save on packaging, shipping, dealing with retailers, etc. That's the marketing department for you, though.

Considering how bad the patches are, a P2P handling of a 4-CD expansion would bring their servers to their knees. I'm surprised they didn't use DVD for all boxes, though - I'd think it would be cheaper and easier. Oh well!

I debated the collector's edition, but it had very little that I wanted, and I didn't want it nearly enough to pay the difference. Plus, if I wanted to get it at midnight, it was gonna be regular. (That was really dumb on my part. But kinda interesting - as a 'do once' thing.)

The whole point of P2P is to take the load off the server, but yeah, there are always people out there that can't get their firewalls configured right. :P It is pretty big, too. Hrm. Either way, it's out there. Still a lot of people without DVD-ROM drives (I know it's hard to conceive... my mother still has a 3½" drive in hers and uses it! /scandal). ^_^ Happy Birthday, BTW!

Yes, that was the part I was thinking of. It would also be hideous on the client machines, come to that. What it does to our network when we get the larger patches is already highly aggravating. The idea of hours on end of that...no. Freaking. Way. I would buy physical media anyway. If they sold it only via download, I might well have declined to get the expansion, even as badly as I wanted it. I do not like the patch mechanism, though I recognize it's necessary. (In part because I have to tweak my computer and Scott's into the DMZ, which only one can occupy at a time, on our router.)

I don't, in fact, WANT to be a server outbound. But I have to be if I want the patches to work efficiently because that's the model they've chosen. So, because of the nature of the router/firewall I have, I must punch a hole in my security that you could put a semi truck through to get patches in a timely fashion. I do not LIKE this model.

Yeah, Gabriel's home loading ours right now. I wanted the collector's ed. because I wanted the whelp. I love my pets. However, no dice, so meh. It's Baby Murky I really want anyway, so, I will deal.
My BE is going to be named Sangredia, if that's not taken. She'll be the best jeweler EVAR! ;)
Happy BC day!

I, of course started up a BE Pally. Her name is Kuroawai (dark-light), and she'll be an awesomer jeweler than you! /raspberry

The /silly is funny. BE chicks are valley girls.

John pre-ordered his from the local game place, and picked it up at midnight Monday. He smartly didn't stay up gaming, he just started the install and came to bed.

Yesterday I fiddled with the install all day, first on our notebook (which was so overwhelmed it couldn't show buildings - must change settings if we intend to play on it), and then on my computer. With the changing of the CDs, all the patches (which stupidly we already had, but which the game wanted to download anyway), it took me a long time.

I tried to come up with a good name for a long time, but nothing I thought of really fit. I eventually went with my theme (Monovi, Monoshi, Monokki) and named my belf Monorae (mo-NO-ray).

Every one and their pig was in the BE starting area playing a pally last night. So I feel a little silly going with a BE pally like a n00b, but I always wanted to play a pally. John thinks palladins are one of the most worthless classes in the game, but I like the mixed classes. It's part melee, part healer, part caster, and I like that.

Of course right now I'm stuttering around like a nitwit because I've never played a pally before and I don't know what I'm doing. Perhaps I'll hit Wowwiki and see what I can learn.

I don't think pallies are worthless, but I understand from coworkers who've played them that they're a pain to solo level - the killing is so slow....

Mostly, pallies are irritating on the other side in pvp. Of course, I started a rogue to play with Jaka's pally, so who am I to complain?

That's true (see below), and they can be pretty boring (seal, judgement, seal, hack, slash, heal...). They are hard to kill (especially if they have their LoH cooldown). DPS to play with a pally is a great idea. I was wondering why they didn't have BE warriors, then I realised it was a whole tie-in to their magic obsession. Then I couldn't figure out why they had BE rogues. Whichever.

Good luck with that.
I've made 3 paladins and killed every single one of 'em off by the time I hit 15! They have always been so frustrating for me. Of course, I'm partial to warlocks, druids and rogues, so, that could be why. It's a different style of fighting and I can't get the paladin buttons in all the right places and...yeah.
But, boy oh boy, even though I did not want to...at all...I LOVE the Blood Elves! Love them! The boys look like girls. The girls look like hookers. They dance poorly and, Ms Mandy, you SO were not kidding: /silly is THE funniest thing ever! My little girl, and I only played her for about 2 minutes this morning as I was clearning up the after-patch, went on and on about facials in UC...then complained that her hair color had to stay that way. Such fun!! Heee!

Re: Good luck with that.
They're little ballerinas when they /dance, too! ^_^ My BE lock has the big Peg Bundy hair. /lol The /silly emotes are hilarious, and the laugh is like the smile that you see fade. Hahaha, haha, ahhhh... /fake. The scenery is gorgeous, tho. I got a pally to 42 then found I loved mage! Highest lock ever was 22. Before I deleted her, I took her to Gadget, set her to /pvp and taunted the Alliance 60s into attacking her. ^.^

Re: Good luck with that.
Ballerinas?? Is that what they're trying to do? Wow. They suck! Bwahahahahahaha!
We rolled up some Draenai on our RP server last night (our main had a queue on 900+ and we didn't feel like waiting, whereas our RP server had a wait of under a minute). OMG! Ok, their story is...well, in my opinion...stupid like crazy. Hello, WTF? They crash-landed on the planet a month ago and didn't know there were other survivors right over the ridge? And why on earth would they be able to understand the Blood Elf speech? Even if the BE's had somehow caused the crash and knew everything about this alien race, I doubt they'd be so fluent in the Draenai language that they would speak it to them in a threatening manner. Uh-huh. Whatever. Lame.
But.
OMG, I love them. I love their little tails and their little Tauren-Succubus looks and their little dances and their little accents. Oh, I had the best time with them! Gabriel's little mage girl is freakin HOT, too! I made a boy shaman. You'd think there'd have been more shamans, but on the RP server, warriors were the most popular, followed by hunters. ???

I think the Peg Bundy hair (the one with the little tiara, yes?) is THE most popular BE style right now...add the hoop earrings and the heavily-made up face and you've got quite the high-maintenance floozy! I can't wait to really get in and play with my not-so-floozy-but-still-trampalicious little rogue. :D

Re: Good luck with that.
I find it a little distressing with pallys that they have no distance damage. Everything I've played before, I've had some spell or wand or bow that lets me hit from far away. There is all this running* that has to be done with a pally! I mean, it's not the lazy person's choice. The hunter is way more convenient for standing around and killing without having to run hither and thither.

Klaus, who is playing a rogue to match with my pally, also has to run up to hit. This is making things difficult to tag in the Belf starting area where it's over run and mobs are in short supply.

I also started a Draenei (or however you spell that) just to see what they are like. I personally think they are cooler than the Belves. OK, the guys are way too meaty, but the females are very sexy with their hip swinging run. And while there are some strange combinations you can make with not enough hair and too much horn, I think I put together a truly attractive female if I do say so myself. She's quite striking with dark skin, light hair, and really nice horns. (Also, the name just came to me with no hesitation at all, so it must be a good character.)

Re: Good luck with that.
I thought Paladins could learn bows? Can they not? And rogues can always throw daggers/axes, that gives them some ranged abilities. That way, the meat comes to you, not you to it.
A friend who rolled up his Belf paladin the same time I rolled my rogue and Mr. Fianceface rolled his hunter is already at level 28. I guess he's having a blast with it. We're both at level 12. Of course, we have multiple babies to work on...so...yeah.
How are you liking it, other than the ranged issue?

I also love the Draenei. I've seen some super cute cuties, too. I have a boy who is all hypermasculine and ridiculous, but I like him. He's my shaman. And the girl is also dark and has the swept-back-and-up horns with the medium-hair-with-bangs. She's a hunter. And she's adorable. I so suck at hunters before level 10...constant death. I really need my pet to do my killing for me. My first pet is going to be the pink and purple ravager in a cage. And don't you just love their quests??? I still get a kick out of the furlbog language one and I've done it twice already! Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to be so enamoured of both races. I had epxected to hate them, but they have both been super fun so far!

Yeah, even on my system I've been getting some strange display problems with the last couple of patches and the BC. I even started my pally and a lock. Pallies are very useful in groups and raids. At higher levels, they get Divine Intervention, which can save a group from a wipe, and Judgement of Wisdom is a great way for casters to restore mana (it's called wanding). They can off-tank with plate, heal, bubble, and rez. It is true, tho, that they are an annoying class to level, especially solo, although they don't die all that often. There are a lot of ways to go with a paladin, and you get a huge array of armor and weapon choices. I've seen healadins go on raids in mix-and match +healing gear of all types, including cloth. You might want to check the WoW forums (if they're up) for a pally guide that's been stickied.
