Evil Wal-Mart Photolab Staff!!

I've used this in two comments to people who also had evil Mondays, but then I realized that Monday sucked for almost everyone at some point. It's so apropos and much better than Garfield could ever put it.

This kind of jackassery:

Remember how I said I found a bunch of photos, and since I don't have a working scanner, I'd just take them to the Kodak machine at Wal-Mart and put them on CD?

Here's what happened:

I went into Super Wal-Mart and walked to the back of the store with my folder full of photos. I asked one of the girls behind the counter how I could get all these scanned and put on CD. She said just to use the Kodak machine. Well, the "burn to CD" option lets you pull from another CD, PDA, cell-phone, flash media, or floppy. There's no option about using the scanner.

I ask the girl, "How do I do this? The scanner option isn't there."

She gives me an impatient look and pushes the on-screen buttons to start over, then chooses "burn to CD" and then says, "Hmm, I'm not sure."

She calls over another girl, who tries the same thing again. Then she gets that oh-duh-I-know-how-to-do-this expression and says, "Oh, yeah, you need to choose 'scan to print many copies' and then at the end, choose 'burn to CD.'"

I say, "And I can do that without having to print any pictures?"

Great, so trusting that the Photolab personnel know how the Kodak machine works, I spend over half an hour scanning the photos in. I press "Done."

There is no "burn to CD" option.

I call over one of the girls, who defers to the first girl I spoke to, who then defers to the one that said I could actually do this.

"Oh, well you need to... hmm... Well, I guess you can't do it on this machine." She then presses "Start Over," clearing out all the scans I just did. She says, "Go ahead and give me the photos, and I'll scan them and put them on disk."

"How long will that take?"

"About half an hour."

Fuck... this... shit... I had not taken into account that I'd have to deal with incompetence and did not leave enough time for their "solution" to my problem. I storm out of the store, restraining my wrath. The greeter did say "Thanks" as I roared by him, though he did have the sense not to try to stop me to search my folder full of photos.

Moral of the story: Never go to Wal-Mart for anything if there is any technical expertise required.

So, how shitty was your Monday?
